To Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong,

This email is to demand that Australia votes in support of decisive military action in the “Uniting for Peace” negotiations on Palestine at the United Nations, New York. Palestinians must be protected, otherwise Israel's extermination project with continue until every Palestinian is murdered or forced off their land, and you will be prosecuted for complicity in genocide.

The Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, has called for the protection of Palestinian civilians, including “the dispatch of an international protection force to the OPT and acceleration of unfettered humanitarian assistance by the UN and international organizations” [1] .

One of the most recent in the list of horrifying developments has been Israel’s plans for a “humanitarian city”, which have been called a “concentration camp” by Israel’s own former prime minister, Ehud Olmert [13] .

Israel has been blocking aid, including food and water, from entering Gaza since March [14] . In an analysis from 1 April-10 May 2025, the IPC reported “dire conditions”, including 44% of Gazans experiencing “emergency” acute food insecurity – close to the starvation threshold [15] . Things have become unimaginably worse in the two months since then, with journalists and medical staff among those unable to work due to lack of food and exhaustion [16] . The recent air drops and new aid corridors have done next to nothing to help the situation. We must act now.

Australia was one of 27 countries who recently signed a joint statement calling for the immediate end of the war in Gaza [17] . Prime Minister Albanese, you have acknowledged the starvation in Gaza, saying it is “beyond comprehension” [18] that the prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, claims that “there is no starvation in Gaza” [19] .

In September 2024, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution (A/ES-10/L.31/Rev.1) that set a twelve month deadline for Israel to end its occupation of Palestine [20] . The expiry of this deadline means immediate action is legally required,

Several bodies and organisations have found that the destruction of Gaza is an act of genocide, including a UN Special Committee, Amnesty International [2] , and recently, the International Association of Genocide Scholars [3] and a UN commission . Israel has displaced over 90% (1.9 million) of Gaza’s population [4] , killed over 1000 aid-seekers [5] , intentionally targeted reporters [6] and aid workers [7] , bombed hospitals [8] , safe routes [9] and humanitarian zones [10] , committed sexual and reproductive violence [11] , and intentionally targeted reporters, aid workers, and hospitals, including in a double tap strike captured on a livestream last month [12] .

We cannot stand by and watch a genocide. As a party to the Genocide Convention, Australia is obligated to act.

France and Saudi Arabia have endorsed an international stabilisation mission, which would "support transfer of internal security responsibilities to the Palestinian Authority". Giving the reins to internal security over to the Palestinian Authority, a body that has not held elections in 19 years [22] and has aided Israel in its mission to control the Palestinian people, is not conducive to Palestinian self-determination.

We demand that Australia votes in support of decisive military action in the “Uniting for Peace” negotiations on Palestine at the United Nations, New York.

Further to this, we demand Australia:

Provide military vessels to escort the Global Sumud Flotilla.

End all agreements and active permits with Israeli weapons companies.

Cut all economic, military and political bonds with Israel.

Publicly declare support for the International Criminal Court’s mission to arrest Israeli officials suspected of war crimes.

As Craig Mokhiber has said, “The Israeli regime will not end the genocide in Palestine of its own will.” [23] [24] Catastrophic crises require real action.
